Kings Team Racing at
Westbere SC, Saturday 25 April
“The first team racing fixture of the summer term 2009 was sailed on
Saturday April 25 at Westbere lakes SC, near Canterbury. In bright
sunshine and with a good SSW f3/4 breeze eleven teams enjoyed lively
sailing conditions throughout the afternoon. We were delighted to
welcome two teams entered by Kent Schools Sailing Association (KSSA) as
the good links between BSDRA and NSSA at local and national level
develop. Some teams took a few races to adjust, but all teams sailed
the 420s very well with Sevenoaks, in particular, going on to produce
some impress team-racing. On umpires’ advice, after race 37 of a “round
robbin” four teams were adjudged to be finalists:- KSSA 1, King’s,
Magdalen CS and Wellington. For the third successive year MCS Oxford
were worthy winners of the East Kent trophy.
Result: Gold League - 1st MCS, Oxford, 2 Wellington, 3
King’s, 4 KSSA 1.
Silver league – 1st Sevenoaks; also sailed –
Aldenham, KSSA 2, RGS Guildford, Tonbridge, King’s 2, King’s 3.
With thanks to Martin Pascoe (Ardingly) and Richard Crook (Sevenoaks)
for umpiring, to team managers for all their help and to the Commodore
and members of Westbere SC for their support.“
Results of the “round robbin” (the winning team in red) . This
shows the wins as: MCS 7/8; K1 6/7; Well 5/6; KSSA 1 5/7; Sev 4/7; RGS
3; Ald 2; KSSA 2; K2 2…. However, the important thing was to see 66
youngsters enjoying some great sailing throughout the afternoon.
