The first big event for KSSA 2010 was the Regatta with Coaching hosted by Bough Beech Sailing Club on Saturday 10^th April. There was an excellent turnout of 25 boats sailed by some very enthusiastic youngsters.

This Regatta with Coaching is a change to the format of recent years. In the mornings first two races the wind was a little unpredictable with light winds near the club house and a steadier breeze out in the middle of the reservoir. Many of the boats were line shy, however a group of more experienced sailors gathered at the committee boat jostling for position. In the first race the laser radials got off to a clean start with 1^st 2^nd and 3^rd going to Steph Wicken, Richard Thomas and Tom Goodey respectively. Closely followed by Charlotte Fenn, Greg Fowler, Ben Gray, Greg Burnage and Josh Clarke in a mixture of Toppers, an Opi, an RS Feva and a Laser Radial. The second race saw a switch in fortunes for the leading laser radials as they were piped to the post by Jack Turnbull in his Streaker, Charlotte Fenn in her Topper and Ben Gray in the Opi.

The afternoons racing was preceded by a debrief of the mornings action and a briefing for what lay in store for the afternoon. The advice offered by our coaches Sam Rowe and Paul Turnill had obviously been inspirational as many of the more junior sailors were now up on the line hungry for a good start. With the wind freshening in the afternoon there were some great battles and pre start duals. One notable dual that developed as the day past was between the RS200’s of Seb Hansell and Jo Pearson- Farr, Chris & Mark Thomas. On many occasions Chris and Mark would have the stronger start but Seb and Jo’s team work pulled them to the front. In the later stages of the afternoon some sailors were now starting to get caught out by the heavier gusts, especially on the downhill legs.
