The 2009 NSSA Regatta was hosted by the Royal
Yorkshire Yacht Club and sailed off This years Kent Team consisted of 19 sailors sailing
16 boats. In Toppers we had Charlotte Fenn, Dan Fenn, Chris Thomas, Mark
Thomas, Louis Knevett, Sebastian Hansell and Tom Goodey. Rookies were
Tom Hatcher and Olivia Goodey. Laser Radials were Richard Thomas, Elliot
Piper-Brown, James Blackman and Tom Marks. Fast Handicap was Nathan and
Zara The event was split into 6 fleets. The Radials shared
a course with the Lasers offshore at the North end of the beach with the
Fast and Slow fleets sharing an offshore course in the South. The
toppers had their own offshore course straight off the landing area with
the Rookies having an inshore course with coaching during the action. The first morning saw many of the kids up and about
early the camp site was buzzing with excitement for the days racing
ahead. Once breakfast had been consumed and the washing up had been done
we all headed to the beach to check over the boats and break into fleets
to brief the sailors on the days sailing. As became typical for the week
the wind was a fresh 4 building to a 5 to 6. Later in the week the
weather gods threw in rain and electrical storms just to keep it
interesting! Day 1 saw the main fleets managing 3 races. The exception
to this was the rookies who only had the opportunity to complete 2. Top
performances for the day were credited to Charlotte Fenn, Dan Fenn, Tom
Goodey, Richard Thomas, Nathan and Zara Tuesday was very much a repeat of Monday with the wind building as the day went on with all fleets getting in 2 races. This brought the Radials, Fast, Slow and Toppers up to 5 races and the Rookies to 4. It was a mixed bag of results for many sailors with Charlotte Fenn, Tom Goodey, Tom Hatcher, Kirstie Greenslade and Jennifer Pearson-Farr putting in consistent results. Racing was cancelled on Wednesday due to exceptionally
high winds. Unfortunately this meant that the Thursday again saw building winds seeming to appear
from the moment the sailors left the beach! On this day the Topper and
Rookie fleets only managing one race each. With the Radials and Handicap
fleets managing 2 races before racing was postponed for the day. We saw
a change in fortune at the front of the fleets with Dan Fenn, Louis
Knevett, Sebastian Hansell, Olivia Goodey, Nathan and Zara We awoke on Friday to blue skys for our final day
with the race management team planning to get all the main fleets to 9
races. The wind started to build as it had done on previous days
however with 3 days of heavy weather racing under their belts the Over the week all of our sailors recorded consistent
results plus a number of first places. The exceptional performance of
every member of the My thanks go to all the Parents who gave their time to support the event. Look forward to seeing you all at Datchet in 2010.
