Topper Team Race Report May 2005

The Kent School's Team Racing Event was held at the Redoubt Sailing Club on 14th May 2005. There were 11 Teams entered from 7 Clubs/Schools. A forcast of force 6 gusting 7 was right and we had strong winds all day. 29 races on one “S” course were held to establish the finalists. All boats started with 2 reefs and they stayed like that for the whole day. The wind was force 5 or above all day. The four finalists had a further round robin race all sailing against each other, which resulted in 2 wins for three of the teams, so it was decided to have one final race with all three teams sailing, SPT racing won, downs S C were second and Kings School 3 were third. All teams had an excellent time and a very good spirit of inter-club rivalry was seen. £172.50 was taken in Entry fees. £30.00 was paid for Boat hire and Petrol to the Redoubt Sailing Club and a further £30 hire to the 19th Folkestone Sea Scout Group for their boats. Unfortunately we also had to pay £75.00 to Nickolls Quarries Leisure Park for access .

Certificates were given to all competitors. The four teams were donated Parker pens in addition to the shield for first place.

Thanks go to Frank Catt and Steve Restall for doing the race officers on the course and John Weaver, David Turnbull and his two sons, Julian Andrews and John Ridley for safety boat cover. Thanks also to Elena Setterfield for drawing up and recording the results sheets and to Marion Smailes who ran the galley all day.
